The Christel Dehaan Center for Global Engagement (CDCGE) is the University of Indianapolis's home of the International Admissions Office, Office of Study Abroad, International Partnerships, and Office of International Student and Scholar Services.
Social Media Job
In October 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to work as the social media coordinator at CDCGE which was the Center of Global Engagement. The office was undergoing a major rebranding process, thanks to a generous donation from the Christel Dehaan Foundation. My main responsibility was to make this rebranding effort public by creating and managing multiple social media accounts and updating the website.
Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook
I created five social media accounts from scratch; two on Instagram, one on Facebook, and two on LinkedIn. I didn't just manage these accounts but also created all the content on them, from designing to writing captions. I used Canva to create the designs, and worked closely with the CDCGE team to ensure the best graphics.
Website Updating
UIndy utilizes Cascade as their website management and creation software. Although I was initially unfamiliar with Cascade, I was tasked with updating the CDCGE website. I quickly learned how to make the necessary updates to the website and ensure clarity for readers. Given that many of the students who visit CDCGE are international students, we put a great deal of effort into choosing our wording carefully and ensuring that the website was easy to navigate. Amazing Opportunities
During my time at CDCGE, I had the privilege of meeting many amazing people. The individuals in the CDCGE office have been exceptional mentors who have encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and push my limits. They have motivated me to undertake tasks that I never would have considered before. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to interact with a substantial number of international students at the university. Moreover, I am fortunate to have established good relationships with individuals from other UIndy offices.
Organization
I have always been good at organizing, but I never truly understood the importance of organization until I started working at CDCGE. Through my work, I have become very familiar with the Google Suite and have also learned how to manage files on Canva. One of my key skills now is ensuring that the social media posting process is as seamless and efficient as possible.
Moving On
I am disappointed that I had the opportunity to only spend two semesters at CDCGE. However, I believe it is for the best as I gained new experiences during my time at UIndy and it was time to move on to the next opportunity. I am immensely grateful to all the people at CDCGE who encouraged and motivated me to be the best version of myself.
